Decreased Risk of Death from All Causes: Reduced risk of all-cause mortality was linked to replacing processed meat with nuts or legumes, red meat with nuts or whole grains, and dairy or one egg per day with nuts or legumes.
The researchers emphasized that their data indicate a positive correlation between overall mortality, cardiometabolic health, and switching from animal to plant-based diets.
However, the study acknowledged some limitations, including the possibility of residual bias in prospective observational studies, variability in portion sizes, and the use of theoretical food substitutions in many of the evaluated studies.
Positive opinions on the study were voiced by registered dietitian nutritionists who were interviewed for the article. They emphasized the value of plant-based diets for general health as well as their possible advantages for the environment.
