The UAE Energy Minister, Suhail Al Mazrouei, announced the launch of the Salamah 365 project, a transformative initiative aimed at improving public safety through innovative solutions and interactive warning systems. The project focuses on addressing accident blackspots, implementing a localized model of pedestrian crossings, predicting floods by monitoring dams and valleys, and introducing a safe, smart school model.
Key Objectives of Salamah 365
- Accident Blackspots: The project aims to identify and rectify accident blackspots—specific locations with a historical concentration of road traffic collisions. By addressing these areas, the initiative intends to significantly reduce the number of road fatalities and enhance traffic safety levels.
- Pedestrian Crossings: A locally tailored model of pedestrian crossings will be implemented to enhance safety for pedestrians. This initiative seeks to create safer and more efficient pathways for individuals crossing roads.
- Flood Prediction: Salamah 365 includes a flood prediction component that involves monitoring 16 dams and nine main valleys during the pilot phase. This proactive approach allows for the prediction of floods before they occur, ensuring timely response and mitigation efforts.
- Smart School Model: The project will implement a safe, smart school model to enhance the safety of school students. This includes leveraging technology and innovative solutions to create a secure and conducive environment for students.
National Programme for Infrastructure Development
The launch of Salamah 365 is part of the broader National Programme for Infrastructure Development. The project aligns with the UAE’s commitment to adopting ambitious initiatives, regulations, and state-of-the-art infrastructure practices. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders from federal and local government, as well as the private sector, to meet safety criteria across infrastructure, roads, and dams under varying conditions.
