In a significant move to prioritize road safety and enhance the working conditions for delivery riders, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled plans to construct 40 air-conditioned rest areas across the city.
Creating Safe Spaces for Delivery Riders
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide a comfortable and shaded environment for delivery riders during periods of rest between fulfilling orders. The project is designed to contribute to the overall happiness and satisfaction of delivery riders, encouraging greater adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
Construction Phases and Operational Timeline
The construction of two rest areas in Al Barsha has already been completed as part of the initial phase. The remaining 38 rest areas are scheduled for construction in three phases, with the entire project expected to be operational by July 2024.
Key Locations for Rest Areas
The strategically planned locations for these rest areas include prominent areas such as Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Al Quoz, Al Karama, Al Satwa, Al Jaddaf, Mirdif, and various other districts in the emirate.
Amenities for Rider Comfort
Each rest area is thoughtfully designed to accommodate up to 10 people and will be equipped with essential amenities, including a snack dispenser, water cooler, and a mobile phone charging station. Additionally, ample parking spaces for motorcycles will be provided adjacent to each facility.
Focus on Exterior Design
The exterior design of the rest areas prioritizes reducing the impact of sunlight, ensuring proper insulation and creating a welcoming atmosphere for riders.
Commitment to Traffic Safety
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of RTA, highlighted that the construction of these rest areas aligns with the RTA’s commitment to providing a conducive working environment for delivery riders. He emphasized the importance of traffic safety and how this initiative contributes to the broader traffic safety strategy in Dubai.
As Dubai continues to witness a surge in the number of delivery riders, these air-conditioned rest areas signify a proactive step by the RTA to support and recognize the contribution of delivery riders while emphasizing their safety and well-being on the city’s roads.
