In a significant stride towards localization and innovation in the aviation sector, a dedicated team of Saudi engineers and cabin maintenance technicians has successfully upgraded the suites of Saudia’s Boeing 777 aircraft fleet. This groundbreaking project, spearheaded by Saudia Technic, a renowned maintenance, repair, and overhaul solutions provider and a subsidiary of Saudia Group, is a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to localization, aligning with the ambitious Vision 2030 plans.
Collaboration with Seat Air Systems
In collaboration with Seat Air Systems, a US-based aviation solutions provider, the initiative focuses on modernizing and enhancing the first suites of Saudia’s Boeing 777 aircraft fleet. The project commenced with the upgrade of aircraft HZ-AK37, marking the beginning of a series of enhancements planned for the entire fleet of this model.
Director General’s Commendation
Ibrahim Al-Omar, the Director General of Saudia, expressed commendation for the project, highlighting its significance in ushering in a new era of localization within the aviation industry. The initiative aligns with Vision 2030 objectives and positions Saudi Arabia as a key player in aviation innovation and technological advancements.
Adherence to International Standards
The press release emphasizes that the modernization of the first suite was executed in strict adherence to international standards. This commitment enabled Saudia to secure accreditation and licenses from the General Authority of Civil Aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration, paving the way for further developments and upgrades across the entire aircraft fleet.
Advanced Workshop at King Abdulaziz International Airport
Saudia Technic equipped a modern workshop at its headquarters at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to facilitate the project. This state-of-the-art facility was instrumental in implementing various upgrades to enhance the efficiency and performance of the first-class suites.
Innovative Upgrades
The procedures involved in the upgrades included a meticulous change in the mechanism of fixing and moving the door of the first-class suites. This was achieved by adding a latch and increasing the number of motor passes to ensure a steady and smooth door movement. The installation of an advanced, high-quality metal gear device, connected horizontally to withstand the load and weight of the door, contributed to reducing the aircraft’s overall weight. This not only enhances efficiency but also promises a reduction in operational costs.
A Step Towards Efficiency and Cost Reduction
Completing upgrades on the first suite sets the stage for transforming the Boeing 777 aircraft fleet. This initiative not only boosts Saudia’s capabilities but also underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering innovation, technological advancement, and localization in the aviation industry. As the project unfolds, it is poised to contribute significantly to operational efficiency, reduced costs, and the overall growth of the Kingdom’s aviation sector.
