Along with other IT courses that focus on data analytics and cybersecurity, Google has launched a number of free courses on artificial intelligence (AI), a significant step towards preparing Filipinos for the occupations of the future. Google Philippines Public Policy & Government Relations Head Yves Gonzales emphasized that the firm is dedicated to facilitating greater access to AI job options for all individuals, noting that these courses are completely free and available at any time, anywhere.
Various Course Options Available on CloudSkillsBoost
CloudSkillsBoost offers the courses and covers a broad range of subjects. Gonzales noted that students can study topics including machine learning, responsible AI practices, and the differences between generative and other forms of AI. After finishing the initial offers, he further urged participants to take additional machine learning and data science courses.
Matching Programmes to Needs in the Workforce
Google’s decision to offer free AI courses was influenced by a collaboration with the think tank Economist Impact, which polled the competencies that staff members wanted to advance their careers. As per the survey, a remarkable 42 percent of Filipino workers indicated a strong desire to acquire AI and machine-learning competencies, outpacing the average of 33 percent in the Asia-Pacific area.
The Google Career Certificate Programme
Google is adding three new courses to its Google Career Certificates program: business intelligence, advanced data analytics, and cybersecurity, in response to the workforce’s diverse needs. The six current courses—which cover topics like data analytics, IT automation, IT support, project management, UI/UX design, and e-commerce—are enhanced by these additions.
Opportunities for Scholarships and Partnerships
Google’s announcement this year of 1,000 more degree scholarships demonstrates their dedication to education and upskilling. Yves Gonzales emphasized the cooperation in extending scholarships with government organizations such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). For a nominal cost, Google courses can also be accessed on Coursera, offering flexibility to individuals who like this learning platform.
Significant Outcomes: Increasing Employability
Google released positive data, saying that they awarded 39,000 career certificate scholarships in 2022 alone to improve employment in the Philippines. According to Gonzales, more than 6,000 people have completed Google’s certificate programs, and almost 80% of them have reported a major improvement in their careers as a result of their completion.
To sum up, Google’s move to provide free courses in AI and other IT fields is in line with the changing demands of the labor market. Google is actively supporting the upskilling of Filipinos and creating a workforce that is more robust and prepared for the future by addressing the need for AI skills and diversifying into fields like data analytics and cybersecurity.
