According to reports, a new feature is being rolled out to WhatsApp’s Android beta testers. Meta owns WhatsApp. According to WaBetaInfo, the functionality enables users of WhatsApp to add additional accounts to the well-known messaging service.
People currently install a cloned WhatsApp app to add a second account to their smartphone. On some Android devices, however, the workaround is effective. The most recent beta version of WhatsApp features an account switcher that makes it easier to switch between the primary account connected to the smartphone and additional WhatsApp accounts, thanks to the recently implemented multi-account capability.
According to the source, only a small group of beta testers who have updated to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.17.8 may currently use the multi-account capability. Over the upcoming weeks, it is predicted to become accessible to a larger user population.
WhatsApp will display a little downward-pointing arrow icon in the settings menu next to the QR code when enabled. After that, a card with the primary account and a “Add account” button will appear. Users can integrate an account registered on another device by tapping this button, and their most recent messages will sync with their phone.
The article also includes a screenshot of the feature demonstrating how the popup card, which also acts as an account switcher, would show the phone number associated with the relevant WhatsApp account. Thanks to this functionality, users can easily distinguish various versions, combined with the profile picture and username. Back in June, the feature had already been seen in development.
A “companion mode,” which WhatsApp had previously launched, allowed users to set up an iPhone or Android smartphone as a secondary device, allowing them to use a single account across several devices. Users can only use one account at a time on a given device, though, at the moment. Android devices, including some Samsung smartphones, enable WhatsApp “cloning” to include a second account.
If separate accounts are being used, the multi-account functionality, which is only available to a small group of beta testers, simplifies access to personal and professional discussions by providing a practical mechanism. According to data from the feature tracker, notifications and discussions will be shown individually.
