In a tale of extraordinary resilience and determination, an adventurous border terrier named Lucky embarked on a remarkable 100-mile journey across Switzerland on the eve of the country’s national holiday, leaving her owners and the local media astonished.
Her adventure began when her owners, Jennifer Wagner, and her family, left her in kennels in Bern. However, the 14-year-old dog had other plans and broke out of the kennel on a fateful Monday evening. The following morning, to everyone’s surprise, Lucky was discovered in Geneva, an astonishing 160 kilometers (100 miles) from her starting point, as the RTS public broadcaster reported.
According to Jennifer Wagner, a hole in the fence at the kennel undoubtedly became the gateway to Lucky’s epic journey. With a heart full of wanderlust, the determined canine ventured forth into the unknown, sparking a search and rescue mission that captured the hearts of the Swiss people.
On the morning of August 1st, the Swiss national holiday, Lucky was found near the picturesque Lake Geneva. A concerned Geneva resident spotted her by the side of the road and promptly alerted the authorities. The discovery began a heartwarming reunion for Lucky and her worried owners, who were frantically awaiting news in Berlin.
Luckily, Lucky’s owners had taken the wise precaution of microchipping her, which greatly expedited locating them. The relieved family was soon connected with their adventurous furry friend, who had braved the vast distance without any apparent harm, aside from a few ticks in her coat.
“I feel lucky that she is healthy, and did not die, and was not injured,” expressed Jennifer Wagner in a grateful tone during an interview with RTS. “It was a big fright for us,” she added, acknowledging the rollercoaster of emotions they experienced during Lucky’s incredible odyssey.
While Lucky’s feat of traversing such a long distance on her own is undoubtedly impressive, Wagner believes that her furry companion received a helping hand along the way. She speculates that someone must have encountered the friendly dog during her adventure and offered her a ride to Geneva, explaining the remarkable speed at which she covered the distance.
Despite the mystery surrounding the specifics of Lucky’s journey, her story has captivated the nation and beyond, leaving people marveling at the resilience and determination of our beloved canine companions. Lucky’s extraordinary adventure is a testament to the unbreakable bond between humans and their pets. It serves as a heartwarming reminder of the indomitable spirit that lies within our four-legged friends.
