With effect from 10:00 am local time (8:30 am UAE time) on December 24, India will begin thermal screening of all incoming foreign travelers at its international airports.
India will also randomly screen 2% of all foreign visitors for coronavirus infections as worries about a surge in COVID-19 cases around the world grow.
Mansukh Mandaviya, India’s Minister for Health and Family Welfare, made this announcement today. Today, the COVID-19 situation in the nation was discussed at a high-level meeting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over.
According to an official readout of the conference, “the meeting evaluated preparedness of health infrastructure and logistics, status of the vaccination campaign in the nation, the development of new COVID-19 variants, and their public health implications for the country.” This high-level review meeting is taking place against a background of an increase in COVID-19 cases in various nations.
Modi emphasized that the pandemic is still underway and ordered officials to step up current surveillance efforts, particularly at international airports. The summary stated, “The Prime Minister warned against complacency and advocated constant vigil.”
The Taj Mahal, one of India’s most popular tourist destinations, will now require visitors to present a negative RT-PCR test result before they are allowed to enter the mausoleum complex.
During today’s meeting, the Prime Minister was informed that India had experienced a continuous drop in COVID-19 infections, with an average of 153 cases per day and a low weekly positivity rate of 0.14 percent up till December 22.
However, a spike in daily average cases of 590,000 around the globe in the past six weeks has raised concerns in this country. Additionally, there is concern over an upsurge in infections over the forthcoming holiday season and the New Year.
