The sixth annual Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), a jam-packed month-long celebration of health and fitness, has come to an end. 2,212,246 people signed up for The Challenge, an initiative of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, with the goal of making Dubai a happier and healthier city.
The annual fitness movement, which was held in 2022 from October 29 to November 27, featured a wide variety of free fitness events and activities all over the city. The Challenge provided a thrilling month of enjoyable and welcoming physical activity in two fitness villages, DP World Kite Beach Fitness Village and RTA Last Exit Al Khawaneej Fitness Village, as well as 19 neighborhood fitness hubs, a number of sporting events, and thousands of free classes throughout the city.
Along with the inaugural Expo City Dubai Sports and Fitness Weekend, which featured over 45 partner sporting events and more than 13,000 free fitness classes, participants also had the opportunity to participate in two massive fitness events on Sheikh Zayed Road: the Dubai Ride Presented by DP World and the Dubai Run Presented by Mai Dubai. More than 263,000 people attended the Fitness Villages and Fitness Hubs alone, where they had the chance to participate in a variety of activities like Padel tennis, football practice, rowing, and spinning, in addition to several entertaining, high-intensity group workouts appropriate for all fitness levels.
“With the conclusion of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, I would like to reflect on the incredible successes of the 2,212,246 participants who made a commitment to their health and wellness by taking part in the inspirational fitness movement,” stated H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed.
The participants have changed the community’s outlook on fitness by leading by example in dedicating to their own health and welfare. I want to express my gratitude to each and every person, business, organization, and governmental body that supported this endeavor.
We are well on our way to becoming the world’s healthiest city as a group. Although the challenge is done for another year, I urge everyone to continue their fitness journey by taking advantage of all that our wonderful city has to offer.
“Since its debut six years ago, DFC has inspired several success stories of fitness and wellness journeys, from those just getting started to fitness fanatics who have attained new milestones,” said Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment. DFC will continue to serve as a source of motivation and inspiration for the people of Dubai, both locals and visitors, inspiring them to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle. This year’s record-breaking 2.2 million participants, including almost 35,000 cyclists for the Dubai Ride and over 193,000 runners for the Dubai Run on Sheikh Zayed Road, are truly inspiring. Looking back over the past 30 days, it’s absolutely impressive to see how committed our city is to putting health and wellbeing first. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who helped make the sixth Dubai Fitness Challenge a success. It’s a very unique project, and I’m incredibly honored to be a part of it.
With 2.2 million participants in this year’s Dubai Fitness Challenge, according to Saeed Hareb, general secretary of the Dubai Sports Council, “we have once again demonstrated our constant dedication to maintaining our physical and mental health as one community working toward one goal—a fitter and healthier future for all. DFC was created to allow everyone to take use of the wide variety of fitness facilities the city has to offer while encouraging one another to set higher standards for themselves and adopt an active lifestyle. The DFC challenge does not have to end when the small adjustments made and the healthy habits established do. I urge everyone to continue putting their physical and mental health first all year long.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the sixth Dubai Fitness Challenge edition for this outstanding accomplishment.
DFC 2022 collaborated with a number of industry-leading health and fitness applications to encourage positive behavioral change among participants through entertaining public and private challenges, in order to keep everyone motivated during the challenge’s 30 days. Fitbit, Fitze, STEPPI, Count’d, Core Direction, Les Mills, McGregor FAST, Runkeeper, Technogym, ENHAPP, and Hygear were some of this year’s app partners.
The Dubai Fitness Challenge has experienced a steady rise in interest and participation since its start, with the number of registered participants rising by over 180 percent from the initial event’s 786,000 participants to the 2022 edition’s 2.2 million. From 70,000 runners in the first edition in 2019 to 193,000 runners in 2022, the number of participants in Dubai Run climbed by 176%. The number of cyclists participating in Dubai Ride increased by 75% between 2020 and 2022, from 20,000 to 34,897.
Due to the yearly event, Dubai is the only city in the world to provide its residents and visitors with a full month of free and open-to-all fitness classes, events, and activities that are easily accessible throughout the emirate.
awareness of fitness and health The Dubai Fitness Challenge has made a substantial contribution to increasing public knowledge of the benefits of physical activity in promoting health and lowering lifestyle diseases over the past five years.
“At a community level, Dubai Fitness Challenge has considerably raised public health awareness and instilled a healthier fitness mindset in the society,” said Dr. Ramadan Al Blooshi, acting director of the public health protection department at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). People have been inspired by the event to adopt straightforward yet useful living routines. Such public health-driven awareness campaigns are essential for shifting community members’ attention from post-diagnosis care to lifestyle illness prevention.
This not only enhances community lifestyle but also directly lessens the burden of lifestyle diseases on the healthcare system.
The city-wide annual fitness initiative consistently achieves its goal of improving social wellbeing through a variety of wellness, athletic, and fitness activities.
Participants in a post-DFC survey done after the 2021 edition indicated enormous psychological advantages, including the reinforcement of mental wellbeing (28%) and good self-esteem (25 percent). 52 percent of all participants in the DFC survey reported engaging in daily activity for between 30 and 60 minutes, while 24 percent went above and beyond and clocked in more than 60 minutes. All DFC 2021 competitors combined reported hitting their 30×30 goals 88 percent of the time. Infrastructure for community fitness The emirate has increased its community sporting infrastructure and free fitness and lifestyle facilities across the city at the same time that the Dubai Fitness Challenge is growing.

As part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Roads and Transport Authority stated earlier this month that it will expand the network of its bicycle tracks from the 542 km completed in the first quarter of 2022 to 819 km by the end of 2026. In addition, both parks and beaches offer the public access to fitness facilities like bicycle and running lanes. A total of 37.7 km of jogging tracks and 15.7 km of bike paths have been created by the Dubai Municipality in various parks. The Dubai Municipality has also created 12 km of walking paths along the city’s public beaches.
With around 1.86 million users so far in 2022, the cycling and running courses have proven to be incredibly popular. The emirate’s expanding trade in sporting goods is another indicator of Dubai’s residents’ increased fitness awareness. 2021 saw a value of AED1.22 billion in Dubai’s exports of sporting goods, while AED1.1 billion was exported during the first ten months of 2022 (January to October).
Partners in fitness Some of the many other highlights of the 2022 Dubai Fitness Challenge included more than 285 fitness partners, key global sports brands like adidas, Nike, Asics, Under Armour, Puma, Reebok and PepsiCo, hotels and malls showing their support with bespoke events and exclusive promotions; free check-ups from health and wellness providers, and 82 fitness partners. The challenge was created to get people moving and enjoying the great outdoors and help Dubai become one of the world’s most active cities.
Dubai’s Department for Economy and Tourism (DET) and the Dubai Sports Council, the event’s organizers, are among the organizations aiding DFC in fostering community spirit this year. DP World, Mai Dubai, and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) are the event’s presenting partners. Association partners Sun and Sand Sports, AVIV Clinics, Emirates Airline, Emirates NBD, Etisalat by E&, Fitbit, Shamal – Kite Beach, and Last Exit are also partners. Official partners include Aster Hospitals, Clinics and Pharmacy, Arabian Automobiles Co, Dubai Chamber, Lipton, and Sports Society. Media partner Arabian Radio Network The 7th Dubai Fitness Challenge will occur between October 28 and November 26 2023.
