According to a top EU official, there is potential for multi-level cooperation between the EU and the UAE through the European Education Area, a project of EU Member States to create more robust and inclusive national education and training systems (WAM).
According to Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission for “Promoting Our European Way of Life,” who was in the UAE on an official tour, it would provide chances for Emirati youngsters to study in the European Union, further enhancing the existing people-to-people links.

“This was one of the main topics I discussed here. Because the European Union is progressively creating a common region for mobility known as the European Education area, funded by very significant funding for mobility scholarships, he explained.
He emphasized that the goal is to also open the European Education Area to the rest of the world in an exclusive interview with WAM in Abu Dhabi. “It is not just for us, but it can be shared with our partners around the world as a beacon of what Europe stands for.”
The EC Vice President stated that since 2023 will be the European Year of Skills, there are many opportunities for the Emirati youth to participate in this process.

“So, I talked about the concrete ways, the tangible opportunities for opening up our education program to the Emirati young with officials here and with youth organizations.”
The establishment of pathways that would allow all young Emiratis who desire to study part of their studies in the European Union is the first of the two areas of prospective cooperation, the EU official explained. He pointed out that doing it with an EU scholarship would expand the program’s possibilities.
“At the same time, I also want to see the Emirati labor market gain from our sizable resources and initiatives that will be launched in the course of the European Year of Skills next year. Thus, this may require multilevel cooperation that advances our education.
Over 100,000 EU nationals’ contribution to UAE
The vice president of the European Commission urged that the EU and the UAE move away from their economic relations and toward more interpersonal and anthropocentric collaboration.
According to Schinas, who also emphasized that the UAE is a like-minded country and an essential partner of the EU, the two organizations hold a number of similar ideals.
“The large number of EU nationals [over 100,000] that reside in this country, and they make a positive contribution to the UAE economy and society, is the testament to this convergence and proximity,” he said.
The UAE is the only nation in the area that does not require a visa to enter the EU. “Your nation should be proud of this. This is a success that showcases the caliber and fervor of our partnership, the official emphasized.
European Health Union
The recent ratification of three laws relating to community agencies is a significant development, the EU official said when asked about the most recent developments with the creation of the European Health Union.
“We are creating a new organization called the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), which will assist us in anticipating and preparing for any potential health risks.”
Schinas said that COVID-19 wouldn’t be the last pandemic because the planet is so complex. Therefore, we must be ready and prepared.
With a commitment of €4 billion over the next five years, the EU also has one of the most aggressive programs to combat cancer, according to him. “We want Europe to lead the globe in developing treatments for this illness.”
